The Light of Candle Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Soror Candle Hudson-Oden. As a graduate of Bennett College of Greensboro, North Carolina, Soror Hudson-Oden was passionate about the importance of scholastic achievement. She continued her pursuit of higher education by earning her Masters in Middle School Mathematics from DePaul University, of which she ultimately applied toward her teaching career with Chicago Public Schools.
As a faithful and proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Soror Candle Hudson-Oden was devoted to the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. She joined the Tau Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in 2015 and she proudly served as the Chapter’s Financial Secretary from 2017 until 2021. In memoriam, The Finer Alliance, Inc. pledges to annually award a $5000 scholarship to promising future educators who demonstrate academic excellence.
